On April 27, former Pioneer principal Herbert Espiritu announced to Pioneer families that he had accepted a district office position at Palo Alto Unified School District. Midway through the summer, former Leland High School Principal Brad Craycroft was announced to be taking over the role as principal.

The start of the 2022-23 school year has been an opportunity for students to return back to their new normal post-COVID school routine. The return to school marked reunions of friends and old teachers, making it an exciting experience for everyone. However, not everything was as easy. One notable obstacle that students, counselors and teachers had to overcome immediately upon their return to school was scheduling issues.

In 2019, Pioneer High School withdrew the Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ club recognition on campus. This was decided after they had violated the school’s nondiscrimination policies by requiring student leaders to sign a “purity pledge” that states that marriage may only be between one man and one woman.

Once again, more teachers left Pioneer with the end of the 2021-22 school year, leaving more spots to be filled. One position that the district was unable to fill with a permanent teacher was Allyson Landreth’s spot in the biology department.

Hurricane Ian has struck Florida and has caused lasting damage to people’s homes, cars and businesses. People living in Zone A, the area struck hardest by the hurricane, were placed under a mandatory evacuation, but many were unable and unwilling to leave their entire livelihood behind and decided to stay despite the ruthless hurricane.
