As the holiday season approaches, Pioneer students have made great strides in the efforts to give back to the community. For the month of November, the service learning class, led by History Department chair Mike Burrell, held two Friendsgiving events: a pie-in-the-face contest and a canned food drive. The two events were held in hopes to help people in need during the holiday season and raise awareness for hunger in the community.

On Nov. 14, Pioneer’s Service Learning class hosted Stanford Blood Center for their bi-annual Blood Drive in the gym for students and staff. The blood drive, held in the fall and spring around six months apart since 2001, had 94 donors this fall, 83 of which donated for the first time, and collected 78 good pints of blood for Stanford Blood Center to be given to patients who need it most.

This school year is exceptionally harder than the rest. Teachers and students have both addressed their concerns regarding the 2022-23 school year, as the additional stress of academics and a growing teacher shortage have taken its toll. A recent study from Switzerland said that “around 30% of teachers report that the teaching profession is ‘very stressful’ or ‘extremely stressful.’"
