On Feb. 1, a 4% raise was put into place for all San Jose Unified staff, including those in the food service, bus drivers and administration. Along with this, a 3% one-time bonus payment was also given to staff on March 10.

Former Pioneer Spanish teacher Ricardo Chavaria was arrested on assault charges in January 2019 and convicted later on six counts of sexually assaulting a minor over a period of four months between October 2018 and January 2019.

Each year, the NUMU museum in Los Gatos ArtNow show chooses a new exhibition theme for students to submit their artwork to. This year, the theme selected was “Brave New Worlds,” and art from five of Pioneer’s art students was accepted into the exhibition.

On March 4, several students from Branham High School came onto Pioneer’s campus, and the San Jose Police Department was called. The students from Branham were asked to leave and while most of them cooperated, some didn’t.

I think we can all agree that daylight savings time isn’t very popular in our country. Fewer than 40 percent of countries worldwide still implement daylight savings time switches, and both Arizona and Hawaii already have decided to end the practice.
