Despite having athletes behind in their conditioning because of COVID-19 restrictions and limited seasons last year, the Pioneer cross country teams returned to winning form this season, with some athletes going all the way to state finals.

In a normal year, the dance team would perform a dance at Christmas in the Park, Castillero Middle School, Brookdale Senior Living facility and plenty of others. This year they were able to perform in person at Christmas in the Park for their annual show on Thursday, Dec. 9 which was a positive change in comparison to not having done anything except a few recorded dances last year.

A mix between basketball and soccer, handball is the second most popular sport across the European continent, but is barely even noticed here in the U.S. In fact, most Americans are totally unaware the sport even exists, and most Pioneer students don’t even realize there is a team here.

While many sports had shortened seasons last year as a result of safety concerns surrounding COVID-19, the girls basketball team was unable to have a season at all. The last time the team took the court before this season was February 22, 2020.

On Friday, Dec. 3, I went to the National Collegiate Athletic Association College Cup for women’s soccer at Santa Clara University. The game was against the SCU team and the Brigham Young University team.
