Five years after he last appeared on the big screen in “Justice League,” the Dark Knight has returned to theaters in Matt Reeves’ “The Batman.”
In the movie, Batman, played by Robert Pattinson and Commissioner Gordon, played by Jeffery Wright, try to hunt down the Riddler who has been murdering people of higher authority and exposing their crimes.
Batman, and his alter ego Bruce Wayne, teams up with Selena Kyle/Catwoman, played by Zoë Kravitz, to help explore the criminal underworld and find out the truth about Gotham City.
I really enjoyed this movie. It had lots of good action and I enjoyed Pattinson’s performance as the hero. I think he played the part incredibly well and I enjoyed watching him hunt the Riddler. I also enjoyed Paul Dano’s performance as the Riddler, who delivered a menacing performance while setting up the puzzles for Batman to solve.
Jared Lomeli, 9, liked how the movie was slower-paced and enjoyed the characters.
“I like slower movies like Batman and it had a really good storyline. I also liked the action-packed ending period. I was invested in it the whole time and it kept my attention,” said Lomeli.
Freshmen Christian Abalos found that even though he liked Christian Bale as Batman the best, he also enjoyed Robert Pattinson’s performance.
“I liked the acting by Paul Dano as the Riddler and I liked the cinematography and soundtrack,” said Abalos. “I’d still rather watch ‘The Dark Knight’ but I think ‘The Batman’ is better than ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’”
I’ve always loved the Christopher Nolan Dark Knight series, especially “The Dark Knight Rises” because of its insane action scenes. When I saw that there was a new Batman, I was worried that it would be a flop especially when I heard Robert Pattinson was going to play Batman. However, I enjoyed this movie and I liked it better than “Batman Begins.”
As much as I liked the Batman there were parts I wish were different. I found this movie to be a little too slow-paced, and there were many scenes I felt were unnecessary. The new Batmobile was underwhelming, and the car chase scene seemed unneeded. Batman in general didn’t have too many gadgets, but in addition to the signature grappling hook, he did have contact lenses that could record things. However, other than those items, there weren’t any other gadgets like there are in the Christian Bale Batman series. I loved the Batmobile in the Bale series and all the other gadgets. He had the Batpod, the Batarang, his flying Bat and so much more. Hopefully Pattinson will get more gadgets over the years.
Despite the movie getting a lot of positive response, not everyone liked the movie. Aidan Placensia, 9, didn’t enjoy “The Batman” and found it to be overhyped.
“The movie was overall really mid and some of the scenes were too long. Also I don’t like the fact that they also made Bruce Wayne emo. The Batman could’ve used a little more gadgets and stuff he usually uses in his other movies,” said Placencia. “I also wish we could have seen more of Bruce Wayne not being emo and being more of a billionaire, playboy, philanthropist. However I do like it better than other DC movies.”
Although “The Dark Knight” and “The Dark Knight Rises” will always be my favorite of all the Batman movies, I overall really enjoyed the movie and would recommend it. It has lots of great action, characters, and a compelling story. I am excited to see what happens next.
