2020 has been a huge year already for everyone. From COVID-19 moving the school year online to the upcoming high-stakes presidential election, it truly has been a year like no other. Given our current unique circumstances, I am especially excited to be the news editor of the Pony Express. As a senior, adjusting to distance learning has been both challenging and disappointing. Editing the news section is one of the few senior year activities I still get to do, and I’m excited to get started!
Being away from campus certainly won’t stop the news from coming. The drastic changes both in our lives as high schoolers and the lives of all Americans will certainly lead to some interesting news, and my goal is to deliver unbiased coverage of whatever happens. Distance learning or a return to campus, Zoom homecoming or socially-distant prom; whatever happens you can read about it here. I hope to help guide everyone through these tumultuous times with stories highlighting our new normal from different perspectives and information on whatever is happening, no matter what.
With the upcoming 2020 presidential election on Nov. 3, Americans will be deciding between Joe Biden and Donald Trump, and many of our seniors will vote for the first time. This election cycle is occurring under unprecedented circumstances with a global pandemic, national unrest due to police violence, and a new Supreme Court judge. Even in this tense political climate, my goal will always be to provide fair and diverse coverage of
Pioneer’s political climate and how we relate to what’s happening locally to the rest of the world.
The news section will remain committed to delivering accurate, fair-minded, and informative coverage of the most important events in our school community and beyond. As it seems like everything is changing, this is something you can always count on.
