Ari's Advice

Clubs are a huge part of many high school and college campuses. They are a great way to get involved, explore interests in deeper ways and make friends. I have been lucky to take part in a couple of clubs, but one in particular has really made an impact on me as a student.
Starting my freshman year, I knew I had an interest in medicine, however I did not know exactly what I wanted to do yet. The research I had done on my own left me with a longing to find what career I wanted to pursue. To push my interest along, I joined Med Ed Club, a club that brought together students with an interest in medicine to learn about careers and various topics.
During my time in the club, one meeting that really made an impact on me was when a panel of medical professionals came to talk about their careers and what they do. We learned about hospital administrators, physician assistants, nurses and doctors and how they all work as a team to save lives every single day.
This club meeting was where I learned about physician assistants and their integral part in medical teams, setting a spark of interest in me. After doing more research, I gained even more interest in pursuing a career as a physician assistant or nurse practitioner in the future, all because of one club meeting that helped me learn more about careers in medicine. Ever since I joined that club, my interest in medicine has grown even more and I even did a program with Kaiser Permanente this past summer to learn more.
I thank my freshman year self for joining a club that helped pique my interest to a greater level than I ever realized. The clubs I joined really made such a positive impact on my experience as a student and I encourage anyone thinking about joining a club to explore clubs that interest you. You really never know when a club will spark a deeper passion for an already evolving interest.
