Girls’ flag football, a brand-new sport offered at Pioneer, has had several games and senior Elizabeth w has made a big impact on the team and their 7-2 record as of Oct. 20.
Athletic Director and Head Coach Joe Berticevich feels that Phinney has been adjusting well to the new sport and puts in a lot of time, securing her spot in the quarterback position.
“(Phinney) has done great work, she's playing the hardest position on the offensive end as quarterback, really embraced it knowing she has a lot of responsibilities, and she's getting better every day,” said Berticevich.
McKinley Cullum, 10, recognizes that Phinney is a great teammate in her leadership role as the quarterback.
“She's been great, on the field, she's a team player, always supporting and communicating with her teammates. Off the field, she's a friendly person and it helps bring team spirit,” said Cullum.
As the starting quarterback, Phinney is a leader and Suri Mowji, 12, said Phinney puts in a lot of effort and takes the sport very seriously, adapting well to her position
“I have seen Phinney dedicate herself to the sport both on and off the field. She listens to all the feedback our coaches give her,” said Mowji. “She even goes above and beyond, by studying our playbook off the field. Phinney honestly just has an amazing throw and athletic mindset. She can read the field very well, and always get the ball where it needs to go.”
