As a second-year varsity sophomore, forward Clara Chardos has made great contributions to the basketball team with her speed and effort.
Shooting guard Alexis Lin, 11, feels that Chardos’s competitive energy drives the team forward.
“She has made a great impact to our team in the two years she’s been here, she is always looking to better herself and our team, (and is) just an overall great teammate and person to know,” said Lin.
Chardos has also proven to be a key player in critical situations. In a game against Christopher High School that ran overtime, she was able to hit the two shots to break the tie which were vital for the momentum of the game.
“Last year as a freshman she played almost every single game, and led us in minutes because she just played so hard,” said head coach Rob Zaccheo. “Whether it's defense or rebounding, she's not worried about getting in there and being physical and boxing out and pushing against other players, she's willing to do what it takes to win.”
For Zaccheo, Chardos’s effort to connect with players on the court and at practice stands out more than anything.
“Clara brings a lot of energy to our team, and on and off the court she has good communication with everyone,” said teammate Cassie Itatani, 10.
Speed is Chardos’s strong suit as well as reading the defense, and she has become second on the team in steals.
“She's athletic and that way she runs the floor quick, when she needs to she’ll get out in front and she can also dribble the ball and find other players if needed so she's a very well-rounded player in that aspect,” said Zaccheo.
