Two beloved Marvel heroes are back in a new TV show, “WandaVision.” In this series, Wanda Maximoff and Vision adjust to their new life in Westview and go through all sorts of shenanigans. This series is formatted differently compared to other Marvel shows, as they decided to go with a black and white sitcom-style for the first two and a half episodes, which connects to the overall story.
The direction this show is heading is very interesting and I want to see what happens next, because it has a bit of a mysterious element in the third episode where everything is not what it seems. It’s similar to how “Gravity Falls” handled its plot, where the comedy in the beginning of the show hides a deeper mystery revealed gradually throughout. Episodes four and five reveal some of the mysteries and what was going on in the first two episodes, which takes a darker turn. The revelation that Wanda was mind-controlling the people in Westview was shocking. The plot is very well thought-out and executed, though there is plenty of confusion which the future episodes will hopefully explain. Another thing I really liked was that Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany returned for the roles of Wanda and Vision because they have great chemistry and it would be hard to imagine different actors taking on their roles.
The mystery and plot is what will make this series worth watching. The first few episodes focus on comedy, and the end of the third episode will have you questioning a lot of things and itching for more. With the fourth and fifth episodes, it shifts the direction the series is heading and leaves plenty of intrigue for episode six. Learning that Monica Rambeau, a familiar name from “Captain Marvel” was in earlier episodes under Wanda’s control was also very interesting and it surprised me. I’m looking forward to seeing what she does and how some other characters connect to this story, like the Avengers and what they are currently doing. There are a lot of questions to be answered and so much to look forward to.
Ramsey Osborne, 10, considers himself a Marvel fan and likes the direction the show is heading.
“I like how the show is constantly eerie and has you on the edge of your seat,” said Osborne.
He also appreciates that “WandaVision” is using their characters to their full potential while developing Wanda’s supervillain arc fueled by grief.
English teacher Jason Goldman-Hall is looking forward to seeing “WandaVision”’s connection to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and characters who will appear in the next “Dr. Strange” movie.
“Marvel has already said a number of times that this movie connects directly to ‘Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ so I’m looking forward to the setup for what’s next,” said Goldman-Hall.
The first six episodes of “WandaVision” are available to watch on Disney+ now.
