Teves Talks

On Friday, Dec. 3, I went to the National Collegiate Athletic Association College Cup for women’s soccer at Santa Clara University. The game was against the SCU team and the Brigham Young University team.
I’ve never been to a college sports game before and although the team did lose, it was a really nice experience. It was cool to see the energy from the student section while they cheered for their fellow classmates because there were more students than at high school games.
The game ended up going to double overtime after neither team got a point during either halves, and then later penalty kicks in which BYU won with three goals and SCU with two goals. Both of my parents attended SCU for college so they really enjoyed getting to see their school in the NCAA championships. SCU’s women’s soccer team won in 2001 and 2020 so they were hoping to win two years in a row.
While watching the game, I noticed that the field looked significantly smaller than the field at Pioneer and at most other high schools. The field for professional soccer players is wider than that of high schools because they use it both as a football and soccer field.
This made me think how hard the transition from high school to college sports must be and what I may have to do if I decide to play a sport in college.
