Teves Talks

On April 7, history was made. The Senate voted to confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court, making her the first Black woman in America’s highest court.
A few weeks ago on March 21, Ketanji Brown had her Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing where she was asked unprofessional questions irrelevant to her soon-to-be position. They questioned her religion and things that the Supreme Court has no say in, but nonetheless she handled it extremely well and remained calm and professional through it all.
Jackson is an inspiration not only to Black women but to all marginalized groups. She has proven that nothing is impossible and to keep going even when all odds are against you. A Black woman being represented in the Supreme Court is a huge accomplishment that many thought would never be able to happen.
As a woman in a leadership role, I take great pride in knowing that I have one more person that I can look up to. After Kamala Harris was elected as vice president, I was grateful to be able to finally see someone representing me because in the past that position was filled only by men. I’m still waiting for the day that we have a female president, but for now, I am happy to see another woman get the recognition she deserves in a governmental position.
