Starring Sars: The Final Edition

Countless hours and deadlines later, my time at The Pony Express has come to an end. There’s a lot of things I expected to see and experience my senior year of high school, however, a pandemic was not one of them. Quarantine was far from my ideal situation to produce my last issue as Editor-in-Chief. Despite the constant news we’ve all heard about new cases and the uncertainty of the world, I’d like to share what I am certain of.
I am certain that my high school experience has been defined by my three years in journalism. There is no other place than P6 on this campus that feels more like home and there has been no other experience that has taught me so much and shaped me into the individual I am today while I leave this part of my life behind. It has been an absolute joy this year to take on Editor-in-Chief. To stand with my editorial board and be able to grow together and lean on each other has been an experience that I am so grateful for.
In the fall, I will be attending the University of California, Davis, to study communications. With a communications degree, I hope to pursue journalism after I graduate. If not for this class and my adviser, Jason Goldman-Hall, I would’ve never discovered that this is truly my passion and what I want to do in my lifetime.
As I step into the next chapter of my life, the lessons I’ve learned as a student journalist at Pioneer are lessons that I will carry with me through college and beyond. In other words, I would like to say thank you. Thank you to my writers, my editorial board, my previous editors and EICs before me and last but by far not least, my adviser. Thank you journalism for giving me a direction in life and a legacy I will strive to continue towards objective truth and providing a voice to those unheard.
Thank you.
