Funny pets bring smiles to people everywhere from social media platforms like Instagram and YouTube, and now to a TV show. Through a new Netflix series about celebrity pets, I was able to watch all the hilarious and crazy animals who became famous through their uniqueness. “Pet Stars” is a Netflix reality TV series focusing on pets with unique traits and abilities starring Melissa May Curtis and Colleen Wilson.
I don’t usually like reality TV shows, but I decided to give this a try because watching funny animals is pretty entertaining. It was interesting to watch, but it felt mostly the same each episode, though there were different events they attended such as an ugly dog competition and a fashion show. Throughout the five episodes, Curtis and Wilson traveled around California to meet animals with quirks they could showcase and have fun with. Many different animals were introduced throughout the series, including dogs, cats, lizards, birds and a lot more.
Since so many pets are getting attention on social media, it was a good idea from the team to find pets and their owners through platforms like Instagram and YouTubeViewers may also recognize some of the pets who guest star on this show.
Seeing the owners’ relationships with their pets and how they train them was one of my favorite parts, because training different animals can be challenging and requires special techniques. The owners also teach Curtis and Wilson how they handle the pets on their own while they bring them to events, have them do their tricks, or wear fun costumes.
I liked the Ugliest Dog Contest a lot because the dogs were all cute but also had a ridiculously funny feature that stood out about them that made them cute and ugly at the same time. If getting to know many different animals and their traits is something you enjoy, watching these episodes full of weird pets will definitely give you a laugh.
The style of “Pet Stars” was also something I liked overall, though some parts were very heavy with editing and could have been funnier. It had an upbeat tone with some captioned “commentary” from Charlie, Wilson’s dog adding a unique touch. I also wish there was some more interaction between the animals, because that could have been hilarious and that didn’t happen much. Instead, it spent more time with individual animals and working with them which meant we learned more about them. I enjoyed learning about each pet and their personalities and I would like to see some other ones too.
The first season of “Pet Stars” is available to watch on Netflix now.
