After a long period the school's website finally is being redesigned to help the Pioneer community.

On April 2, Pioneer’s website will be updated to accommodate students, staff and parents. It’s been estimated that the school’s main website has not been renewed for five to seven years.
The new company they are redesigning with is Final Site, which was provided by the district to all schools in San José Unified School District. The new website will be organized differently than in previous years by having new dedicated spaces for repeatedly searched bookmarks. The process of creating the new website was comparing it to all the previous old websites that were used in the past.
With technology changing all the time, technology services coordinator Nicole Ison feels that it is time for the school to update the website.
“You know, like computers will last about seven years, the technology and the same kind of thing happens with websites and designs as new things come out,” said Ison.
With the new update, technology is utilized in order to see what website users used most frequently. The new homepage below the school’s pictures has easy-to-find-bookmarks named Contact Us, Student Portal, Bell Schedule, Calendar, Wellness and Athletics.
“They can see the numbers of people clicking and how many clicks are on each of those sites. And so these were the ones that were used the most,” said Ison.
Isabel Fuh, 12, believes that adding frequently used tabs onto the main website can make it quicker and more efficient to get to other pages.
“Some big buttons on the front page to access the frequently visited parts of the website, and make animations like showing the menu go faster,” said Fuh.
With this update approaching, math teacher Whitney Goodman sees this change is necessary for the school. With the current website it can be difficult for some to find events that are happening for staff and students.
“It needs to get information out to students, parents and teachers more quickly and easily. Especially to students, like teachers get an email with a daily bulletin, students don’t get that email everyday with a daily bulletin, but if it’s on the website maybe students can access it,” said Goodman.
The process to put events on the current school website calls for a staff member to email Ison about the event taking place, then she will update the website so parents and students can see the upcoming event.
“They'll say, ‘Hey, we need to update this, we need to put this layer on,’ and the main group that does the most updates are the academic advisors because they have so much going on with colleges coming out and coming to FLEX periods and just, they have lots of updates that are happening throughout the school year,” said Ison.
The goal of this new and improved website is to provide more information on future school events occurring at the end of the year and throughout the next school year.
“We want to make sure the prom is on there and things that are happening at the end of the school year,” said Ison. “We still need to update it and get that going for this school year, the end of our school year, right. But they really want it looking good and working for the new school year.”
After the new website is active and live, the main goal is keeping the website updated as needed and making it available to the community as a whole.
“(A goal I have for the website is) for it to work the way it's supposed to, keep it as updated as possible and it just makes it easily accessible for the whole community,” said Ison.
