Negrete or Not

Ever since my freshman year, I have struggled with mental health. I didn’t understand the emotions I was feeling or even how to deal with them until I was welcomed into the Wellness Center.
That's why I was originally upset that it closed for the first half of the year without the center. It’s so important to have a place for students to feel safe because they might not have someone to talk to. Teenagers are dealing with having homework, tests, studying for SAT testing, trying to get your driver's license, dealing with family problems, applying for college and just trying to have fun can be a lot to have on your plate.
Just having the option to go to the Wellness Center can bring comfort to students which is why I’m glad we have it open this semester, however the resource is very limited. The Wellness Center is only open Wednesday and Thursday compared to last year having it open throughout the whole week. Also the alarming decrease of students visiting the Wellness Center is not due to mentally illness “going away.” I believe students are intimidated by having to visit their school counselors to be able to go to the Wellness Center.
I hope it stays open and grows for students to use whenever they need it and it’ll help students like how it did for me during my freshman year.
