In January of last year, there was a significant increase in the number of women in Congress. This resulted in women currently making up 27% of the seats held, as if that’s something we should be proud of.
It’s sad and makes me frustrated that women make up a little over a quarter of people in Congress, yet make up 50.8% of the population. We need to end misogyny and give women positions of power.
For starters, it will help diminish patriarchal abuse, hopefully giving women the chance to finally voice their opinions and change the narrative. Additionally, it will shine a new light on women’s issues that are passed over without a second thought.
When I was little, I wanted nothing more than to be president one day, however I was discouraged after realizing I had nobody to look up to. We need more women in power so that little girls have someone who is powerful that they can look up to, so that they know they have a voice that can shatter glass ceilings.
We need more women in power so that instead of being called bossy, little girls will be told they have strong leadership skills. By doing so, it will offer a new perspective on political matters, which will benefit not only women, but many others as well.
It’s 2022, if this country claims it’s so diverse, then why isn’t there more female representation in Congress as well as other governing roles? We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, need more women in power.
