Coach Katie's Corner

Major League Baseball’s Opening Day is just around the corner and I am super-excited to see what is to come for the upcoming season. Although I am not a diehard baseball fan, I am hopeful that the Oakland Athletics will have a good season.
With the third lowest payroll in the MLB, I do not expect them to have a blowout season, but I do hope that they will be able to compete and be in each game they play.
The A’s are known to trade away their top players like Matt Chapman, Matt Olson and Sean Manaea in recent years, and although it sucks, I know it is because they are a smaller franchise that cannot afford their salaries.
As the season begins, I am looking forward to seeing some familiar faces on the diamond, such as Tony Kemp, Nick Allen, Shea Langeliers, Ramon Laureano and Seth Brown.
As with the new pitch clock rule, I hope that the game will be able to move a little faster and be more appealing to the baseball audience. I cannot count the number of times that someone has told me that they would not want to go to a game or watch it on television because it is “too slow” or “too boring.”
Regardless of the new pitch clock rule and the A’s not being as good as I would like them to be, I am excited for how the season plays out.
