Marvel’s newest movie, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” debuted in theaters on Nov. 11 with a captivating story, action-packed sequences and an emotional roller coaster.
After the death of her son, King T’Challa, Queen Romonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), General Okoye (Danai Gurira), M’Baku (Winston Duke) and more, try to lead Wakanda into a new era. However, the threat of powerful countries and the new kingdom of Talokan and its ruler Namor (Tenoch Huerta), looms over the powerful nation.
The beginning of “Wakanda Forever” and many parts scattered throughout the rest of the movie, became a tribute to the impact and legacy that Chadwick Boseman created when he played T’Challa a.k.a the Black Panther.
The movie was incredibly written, explaining the story of how Wakanda is going forward after T’Challa’s death, but also telling the story of Talokan and what it means for Namor to keep the city and its people protected from the surface world. Out of every movie that has been released in Marvel’s phase four, “Wakanda Forever” has been one of the best for many reasons, including an emotional and action-packed story.
Letitia Wright carried this movie on her back, taking the audience through this emotional journey as her character, Shuri, deals with the loss of her brother and then a year later, after an attack by the Talokan people, loss of her mother. Shuri’s sadness is fueled with a need for vengeance, but by the end, she realizes that her family is still looking out for her, even if they are no longer with her. It was really cool to watch as Shuri went through this emotional journey and learned to cope with her grief and eventually, let go.
Overall, “Wakanda Forever” was an emotional rollercoaster with new conflicts and twists, a well written story, complicated characters and occasional emotional moments. This movie is truly living up to the expectations that “Black Panther” created when it came out in 2018, while also telling its own, new story. “Wakanda Forever” really is the sequel that Marvel fans have been asking for.
