Cos' I Said So...

Recently, I was able to watch the Netflix original “Don’t Look Up,” a film that while it was good story-wise, made me hate how real it was to current topics that have a lot of controversy amongst people today.
Following the discovery of an Earth killing comet, Michigan astronomers, Kate Dibiasky (Jennifer Lawrence) and Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio), must warn the people of Earth about this threat, by first going to the President of the United States, Janie Orlean (Meryl Streep). However, the president won’t do anything about the comet until the threat is more demanding of her attention. Even as President Janie starts to take action against the comet, she stops all actions taken to prevent the comet from hitting planet Earth due to important information about a $32 trillion amount of critical materials needed for the software of phones and computers. Sound familiar?
Like the threat of the comet, climate change is an ever pressing issue in our world, and even with the clear signs that our atmosphere is getting warmer, people still think it’s something that doesn’t pose a significant threat to Earth.
“Don’t Look Up” was a real eye opener in terms of seeing the parallels between how people reacted to the comet and now how people react to climate change. It’s the same thing. There are the people who believe the comet was real and were protesting to take action. Then there were the people who thought it wasn’t going to hit Earth and destroy all living species.
