After appearing in season two of “The Mandalorian” to help with the defeat of Moff Gideon, Boba Fett finally gets his own show to shine light on how he survived being eaten by the Sarlacc and what he’s been up to after helping to save Grogu.
The show takes place after the events of “Return of the Jedi,’’ where we see Boba Fett sleeping in a bacta tank. We then cut to a flashback where he wakes up in the stomach of a Sarlacc. He manages to get out of the Sarlacc, pass out, get robbed by a bunch of Jawas, and then get kidnapped by a group of Tusken Raiders. Not looking too good for Boba Fett. We later cut to the present where we see that Fett has taken over Jabba the Hutt’s throne. We also get re-introduced to Fennec Shand, played by Ming-Na Wen, who we saw in season one, episode five of “The Mandalorian’’ as an assassin.
One of the more disappointing things about this show is that they changed Boba Fett’s character. Boba Fett was known as a ruthless bounty hunter, who was Darth Vader’s number one lackey to get a job done. In this show they have made him way too trusting. The character is also supposed to be around 40, but the actor is 61. He also is terrible at fighting in this show. In the Star Wars comics, he takes down a massive six armed alien within seconds without even trying. In the show, every episode he manages to get the crap kicked out of him. He’s way too nice and trusting. He says that he doesn’t want to rule using fear, which is very different from the Boba Fett we used to know. He used to kill people all the time without a second thought. If that version of Boba Fett was in this show, most of the characters we’ve seen so far would’ve been dead already.
Another thing I dislike about this series is the action sequences. The fights are filled with characters making dumb decisions and opponents who are supposedly legends, acting like they are fighting for the first time. Boba Fett never uses his jet pack and doesn’t use his blaster in fights even though he has access to them, both of which would make his fights so much easier for him. At one point he shoots someone with a rocket launcher who is right in front of him using a shield, and ends up being blown back a few and somehow manages to get up from that like nothing happened.
There are, however, parts I like about the series. The show can be funny at times and I like the idea of the gang wars. There was one good fight scene, in the second episode, where Boba Fett and a bunch of Tusken Raiders take down a train. I love train fight scenes in general and seeing a train fight scene in Star Wars form was pretty cool. We also get a familiar character who appears in the show in episode five, to help Boba Fett. I personally enjoyed seeing him in the show and thought he was also one of the highlights. Although I enjoyed this episode, I did find it to be a little too slow paced like some of the other episodes. Most of the time I was waiting for the character to actually get to Tatooine and when he was finally approached by Boba Fett, the episode ended.
I personally find this show to be decent even if I am a little disappointed by it. If you are a very big Star Wars fan then I would recommend this show, but otherwise I wouldn’t recommend it.
All current episodes of “The Book Of Boba Fett” are streaming on Disney+.
