Starting his second year on the varsity swim team, sophomore Jackson Ryan is a team captain and has had a strong season so far.
Varsity swim coach Beth Korbus saw Ryan’s hard work and dedication to the sport, which helped him earn his spot as team captain.
“He’s been scoring points in individual events and in relays. As a sophomore, earning a captain spot I think is another high regard and a reason to be celebrated,” said Korbus.
Ryan’s teammate, Kian Brockbank, 12, appreciated the leadership skills Ryan exemplified, in and out of the pool. Ryan constantly answers questions for his teammates, encourages them during their events and helps them with their stroke techniques.
“He gives a lot of energy around the pool deck, and is always cheering people on and helping out,” said Brockbank. “He’s one of the hardest workers on the team too, and it shows in his improvements over the season.”
To new members of the team, Ryan is careful to give them extra help when it is needed and for swimmers like Price Clayton, 9, the attentiveness is recognized and well received.
“Jackson always answers any question he’s presented with to anyone who asks and helps out around the pool even when no one asks,” said Clayton. “The liveliness and dedication and effort he brings every day with him to practice, he would definitely be who I would choose to lead in times when it’s needed.”
By showing up to practice every day and never giving up, Ryan has shown the whole team what a dedicated, consistent and hard working athlete looks like.
“I really enjoy having Jackson on the team and I think he’s an excellent addition to our varsity squad and a great leader,” said Korbus.
