Ari's Advice

After a long high school journey, my time at Pioneer and The Pony Express has finally come to an end.
When I first joined the class for the 2021-22 school year, I had no idea what to expect. I later learned that I had to go out and write questions, interview teachers and students, write articles and work closely with my editors, which was all very intimidating as a brand-new writer. Although I was very new, everyone was extremely supportive and patient as I navigated how to be a true journalist. Everyone also believed in me in ways I didn’t even believe in myself, creating an extremely beneficial environment that I will forever be grateful for.
Similarly to last year, I had a steep learning curve as I moved on from being a staff writer to an editor. Although I was initially scared, this position ultimately helped me grow into a better writer and leader. Taking on the role of an editor has let me watch my writers flourish and grow in ways they never had in the past and break out of their shells into the incredible journalists they are today. Being part of the editorial board has truly been something special, and I feel so lucky to have been able to produce this paper alongside these amazing women I get to call my friends.
For the past two years, each writer has worked extremely hard to bring stories about our community to print and I am honored to have been a part of their experience working on this paper. I would like to thank our incredible staff for believing in me as well as my fellow editors for trusting me and being patient. While the whole process to produce this paper is far from easy, it has been one of the most rewarding things I have had the opportunity to be a part of. I can’t wait to see what my future holds after high school and what this paper will produce in the future!
