Ari's Advice

As I begin my final semester of high school, the reality of this year is starting to set in. I will soon leave my family, friends and everything that I know, to continue my education further. Although scary, I know that this is one way to help me reach the goals I have set for myself in the past couple of years, which is an extremely exciting thing to fulfill. As 2023 begins, I have started to set goals for myself within my personal life, academics, work and social life as I continue forward into 2023.
In terms of personal goals, I want to continue to prioritize myself and make time for the things I love. Oftentimes my life is consumed with my academic prospects, the sometimes-overwhelming piles of homework that loom, studying and swimming. I have felt that in the past couple of years, I have lost sight of what is important to me and filled the space with other distractions to keep myself busy rather than prioritizing myself.
Another goal I have for this year in my personal life, is to continue to volunteer in my community. For the past year and a half, I have volunteered at Second Harvest of Silicon Valley, a local food bank. This past year I finally reached 50 hours to become a Super Sorter, a higher volunteer designation. This year I hope to reach 125 hours of volunteering at Second Harvest before I leave for college this fall.
Academically, I hope to get into multiple nursing programs in California and out-of-state so that I have many opportunities to move toward my future career. Nursing programs are notoriously competitive in the state and have some of the lowest acceptance rates, so by working towards maintaining my GPA and being on top of my classes, I hope this is a goal I can achieve.
All goals are within reach as long as you put in the work to get there. As the year begins and the semester starts to pick up, I hope that everyone can reflect on their goals for this year.
