The tutoring program has kicked off and has proven to be a success so far. With student tutors readily available for those who need help, the program provides such an important community for students who may need extra support on certain subjects and allows other students to gain experience, help others learn and succeed. It’s such a fulfilling program and I’m so happy that the program is a part of our campus.
High school is notoriously hard. From college applications, to homework, to classwork, it can be extremely overwhelming to learn and juggle the mounds of work required of us. Sometimes the topics may even be harder to grasp at first and learning from others can help make topics easier. In addition, the tutors have once been in the same shoes as those being tutored, as they took the class in prior years, making them not only a wealth of knowledge, but also someone who can support students through the class as well. For the tutors, it allows them to connect with other students and learn how to effectively teach and support students. It also may allow tutors to gain experience if they want to go into education in the future, which is extremely beneficial.
I think the most important thing to acknowledge is that everyone who is running this program has volunteered their time to help fellow students succeed. Oftentimes tutors take their FLEX periods, after school, lunches and breaks to help students, which shows just how committed they are to helping others succeed.
It is so important for schools to have programs such as the tutoring program we are so lucky to have. Private tutoring can be extremely expensive for so many students, but with programs like these, students can get the one-on-one support they need to be successful in their classes. I love that so many people on campus want to provide support for others, showing how kind our campus can truly be.
