Pepperdine University baseball commit Nathan Tichy, 11, has already proven that he is a dominant player early on in the season.
As a strong leader and athlete, head coach Kyle Murdock is excited to see what he will bring to Pioneer for the remainder of his high school career.
“He’s strong, he’s physical and he plays the game. Offensively he’s our three hitter, so he’s in the top of the order. Defensively, because of his physical attributes he’s able to cover a lot of ground in the outfield, he makes good reads on balls and he’s got a very strong arm,” said Murdock. “Pitching is where early on in the season he’s excelling, he is a fierce competitor. He is fearless on the mound. He takes control of the at bats by attacking the strike zone.”
Not only has Tichy been a vital part of the team’s early success, but he has also been a great influence on the team because of the energy that he brings to the sport.
“When he is playing, Nate is such an energetic competitor. He brings so much energy to the mound and the plate. Players feed off of that energy and that is able to translate to the field,” said assistant coach Jake Hernandez.
Teammate Kyle McCue, 10, has recognized the dedication and fiery personality that he brings to the team.
“Nathan has led our team on and off the field during this year. He helps us on the field with small mistakes we make,” said McCue.
While he works hard during the offseason as well, Tichy has proved that he is dedicated to baseball from the work that he put in during the weight room program.
“Nate is one of the best all-around players we have had a chance to coach, and there have been some really good players come through the program,” said Hernandez.
