It is very rare for a high schooler to have an opportunity to be a part of a huge project that most people at their age would never be in. That’s what Ezra McCelleis, 10, has done with being a writer for a movie called “100 Pages.”
The “100 Pages” movie is a project where 100 people join together to write a full-length screenplay for a movie. Each of the 100 participants write a page for the movie and out of those writers, McCelleis is the second youngest writer for the movie.
McCelleis found out about this project from Maya Lewis, 12, who had seen it during one of her classes.
“(She) knows that I want to be a filmmaker as my future career and she sent it to me. She was like ‘Hey, I think you should do this,’ and I was like ‘Oh this is really cool,’” said McCelleis.
As the second youngest writer for the movie, McCelleis feels really proud to be participating in this event.
“It almost feels important. It’s good that there are young people doing this kind of thing. It’s me and two other people who are 18 and under which I’m glad that young people still care about making things. It was really incredible to see everyone passionate about the same things that I’m passionate about. It feels inspiring being one of the younger members,” said McCelleis.
McCelleis isn’t the only one happy about the opportunity. His English teacher, Sarah Briggs, is extremely supportive and delighted that one of her students is in such a huge project.
“When I learned that, it was so exciting for him. He is a very creative writer. I think that being creative-driven, I think that can only take you to amazing places,” said Briggs.
Producer Jesse Dueck, son of world history teacher Darlene Dueck, feels after reading the script McCelleis did for the entry, he was a good choice to bring on to the writing team.
“He is talented, passionate and takes writing seriously as a high schooler,” said Jesse Dueck.
As a former Pioneer student, Dueck feels excited that someone from his high school is on the project.
“It's the coolest thing ever. It has been like having a piece of home on the project,” said Jesse Dueck.
McCelleis is excited for how the movie will turn out and happy for the opportunity he was given to join this project.
“It feels kind of crazy because I’ve been trying to write my own movies for a while as a hobby and it’s fun for me. But to finally be at that place where I’m no longer in a hobby, I’m actually doing something confirmed that is going to go all the way to production, it’s going to be real, that’s just crazy to me, it sometimes hasn’t hit me yet,” said McCelleis. “I feel so grateful. Even when I was younger at 10 years old, I wanted to be the youngest Hollywood star, and I didn’t know how to get an opportunity to do things at a young age, then this project came along. I’m just so grateful.”
